Work with the School Board to Fully Fund Public Education.
Education is a top priority for Walter and he wants Fairfax County to make budget decisions that provide adequate funding to public schools. As a supervisor, Walter wants to anticipate future challenges to maintaining public school excellence fiscally (e.g., changes in the economy that affect tax receipts) and operationally (growth hotspots that cause school overcrowding). Without enough funding we will see more pressure to increase class sizes, and we will lose the ability to attract the best teachers in the Washington metropolitan area.
To ensure 30 years from now our education system is the best in the nation and our teachers are well paid, Walter wants to review how we will fund our schools. Our schools have been funded in large part by commercial real estate taxes – and with the diminishing demand for traditional office space the time to prepare for the future is now.
